Low carbon web design

wind turbine powering PC

I have a keen interest in creating websites using technology and resources which are as green as possible.

The most damaging aspect of some designs is the size and amount of images on a site. Higher emissions of CO2 are produced by large image dominated sites, due to more loading and processing.

If you must have images on your site then reducing the original size and optimising them for the web is essential.

Choosing a web host which uses sustainable energy such as solar or wind power for hosting your site can be another step towards your green credentials.

Gaining new web design clients

Sometimes the best ways are the old ways.

Using social media and technology can be great for attracting new clients but I have found that one of the best ways is pound the pavements and deliver leaflets yourself around the local area.

I have had a great response nearly every time I deliver a batch of leaflets around Bearsden, Milngavie and Glasgow.

Andrew Gillies of Argomas Ltd is one of my recent clients who first contacted me after seeing a leaflet I delivered.

Here is his website I developed. Argomas Ltd Glasgow

ARGoMAS Ltd has evolved into a unique “one-stop-shop” independent consultancy, providing specialised business management system services to a wide variety of business sectors in Glasgow, Scotland and the UK.

As an experienced Glasgow based web designer I have developed many websites from clients from the south of Glasgow in Pollokshaws to the north in Bearsden.

I like to meet my clients face to face to know exactly what look they are after and what functionality is required for their website.

Website design

Designing a website requires a few different stages including sketches, demo site creation (Fireworks or Photoshop), responsive design considerations, colour scheme and logo design.

Client consultation is maintained throughout and after creating a couple of different demo pages I then focus on one that has been selected by my client to best represent their business or organisation.

These are just some of the stages involved in a new web design project. In the near future I will look into more specific areas and perhaps show some step by step examples of a web design process I have completed.

Website Design Glasgow

AA Web SolutionsAs an experienced Glasgow based web designer I try to stay ahead of the rest by working hard to prepare for what’s next on the Internet horizon.

In recent years the development of the Smart Phone and Tablet have added new challenges for website designers everywhere. By learning how to design and develop websites using a responsive (also known as fluid design) design technique I have managed to create sites which adjust to al screen sizes.

With a new website your company can really shine and gain new clients. Check out my client feedback page.

AWMS – Responsive website design

I designed a website for Glasgow based Advice and Wealth Management Solutions. The site uses a responsive design allowing fluid resizing of images and layout depending on-screen size.

Try viewing it on your laptop, then switch to viewing on your Smartphone or Tablet.

As you will see everything responds and adjusts to fit your device screen without the need for pinch and zoom.

Autumn Web Design Promotion

This autumn I am promoting a half price deal for any new clients. I will design and build a website for your business for an extremely desirable price.

I have helped launch many new Scottish companies and organisations with a new website. Here are two recent examples.

Andrew Gillies from Glasgow of Argomas Ltd was pleased with his new website for a new venture.

Professor Ross Deuchar was another satisfied customer with the design and launch of his new webite.

Both of these clients had input into the design process from colour scheme to layout. Once I had created several demo pages they chose the one they liked the best and we worked on developing it further.

AA Web Solutions

I am a self-employed web designer and my main website is  AA Web Solutions. The site will be updated within the next few months with a new design and content.

It is a few years old now and needs updating but it was one of the first of the new generation of responsive websites in the UK. Amazingly there are still lots of top ranked and prominent web design websites that are old fashioned non-responsive sites.

This is unforgivable in this day in age with the massive increase in Smartphone and Tablet web browsing.

I will keep updating this blog over the next couple of months with progress reports relating to my new web design for AA Web Solutions.

Responsive website launched

I have recently launched a new website for a company called ARGoMAS Limited Management Systems Consultancy. Featuring a responsive design and a dark colour scheme.

I made the site from scratch using design tools Dreamweaver CC and Fireworks CS6 following several chats on the phone, email exchanges and a face to face meeting with my client.

Demo pages

I then create a couple of demos for the site and allowed my client to choose his preference. Adjusting the design for mobile first css3 media queries up through tablet and then desktop size changes was the next job.

My client was working on their content for the site throughout the design process so I had to adjust several areas of design to accommodate extra text and images.

Once the text and images were added it was time to test the contact form. This form contained several different components such as radio buttons and drop down lists. They had to be validated for correct user entry.

Site launched

Finally I added in title, keywords and description to each page and submitted the site to Google, Bing and the DMOZ directory.
